Hotel Sentry is built so that the developer never receives your data. There is no Hotel Sentry server, no account to create, and no analytics or advertising code in the app.
Everything below stays on your own device and in your own private iCloud database (Apple's CloudKit private database, tied to your Apple Account). It is readable only by you — and, if you choose, by someone you invite.
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Sensor readings — pressure, sound level, motion | Detecting a door opening or the phone being moved | Processed live on the device; never stored or transmitted |
| Event log | Showing what happened while you were away | Device + your private iCloud |
| Alert photos | Showing who entered the room | Device + your private iCloud |
| Alert audio clips (10 s, optional) | Hearing what happened at the trigger | Device + your private iCloud; can be turned off |
| Device status — battery, armed state, heartbeat | Showing whether the sentry is alive | Your private iCloud |
| Hotel geofence (optional) | Arm reminders and automatic disarming | Your settings; never transmitted to anyone |
| Bluetooth proximity | Direct link when your devices are near each other | Encrypted, directly between your devices |
Each permission is requested only when its feature is first used, and the app keeps working if you decline the optional ones.
You can share access to a sentry by showing someone a QR code. Scanning it lets their Apple Account read that sentry's events and send it commands. Anyone who obtains that code gains that access — treat it like a key.
Alert photos and audio clips may capture other people. Laws about recording people — especially audio — differ by country and region, and some places require notice or consent. You are responsible for using Hotel Sentry lawfully where you are. Audio clips can be switched off entirely on the Arm screen.
Data stays until you delete it. Deleting the app removes the local copy; deleting the app's iCloud data in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage removes the cloud copy. There is nowhere else for us to delete it from, because we never had it.
Hotel Sentry is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
